journal 4a

After she realized what today was, she jumped out of her bed. Jenna ran to her parents’ room and started to jump up and down on the bed singing, “Happy birthday to me, happy birthday day to me!” Her mom woke up, gave her a kiss and a hug, told her happy birthday and then started out to the kitchen to make a special breakfast for Jenna. For about an hour Jenna stood in her parents’ bed watching TV with her dad. Jenna loved their bed; she loved how it smelt like fabric softener, how the sheets felt like silk on her skin and how the bed seemed to form around the shape of her little body so comfortably. “Come down Jenna and George! The food is done,” Jenna’s mom called from the bottom of the steps. As Jenna ran down the steps, the smell of French toast, eggs, bacon and orange juice hit her as she came closer and closer to the kitchen. Her mom knew that, that was her favorite breakfast, which made her birthday even more special. As Jenna ate she thought about what her parents got her for her birthday. She knew what she had asked for and what she really wanted but her parents never told her if they were going to get it for her or not. It was a thin, shiny, and pink with white strips hula-hoop. When the family had when out to Toys “R” Us last weekend she has seen it and fell in love with it. “Jenna what are you thinking about so hard that you’re not eating?” Jenna realized that she was not eating anymore but fantasizing on the beautiful hula-hoop. “Mom did you get me the hula-hoop that I wanted from Toys “R” Us?” Heather looked at her daughter, “uhh I don’t know, you will find out later Jenna. Eat your food so we can go out,” she said and smiled. After the long day that they had going out to Jenna’s favorite park, going to see some family and going out to eat at Jenna’s favorite place to eat, McDonalds, they headed home. Jenna was ecstatic to go home and open the presents that her parents had gotten her. When they got to the house, her presents were sitting on the dining table in the living room. She ran to the table and started to open the gifts, she got a doll and an easy bake oven but no hula- hoop. Jenna was excited about her gifts but wanted to know why she did not get the hula-hoop and almost started to cry. At that moment her dad came out of the room and said “Jenna look over here,” and Jenna turned around to see her dad holding the pink and white hula- hoop in his hands. She jumped up from the couch and ran over to her dad to get the hula-hoop. She gave her dad a big hug and said “thank you daddy so much!” She could not believe that she actually got the hula-hoop. For the rest of the night she stood in the living room playing with her hula-hoop and teaching herself new tricks. This was the best birthday ever she thought.
