What did I do? Why would I do something so stupid? He thought as he ran down the street. His baggy pants had been holding him back from the speed that he could usually run in and he became too hot inside of his big black north face coat. All he tried to concentrate on was not tripping over his old broken down Jordan sneakers and falling on his face so he wouldn’t get caught. He could hear her raspy voice screaming in the distance, yelling at him to come but it was too late now and he couldn’t turn back.
Once he saw a building with people opening the door, he stormed in the door and ran up to the roof of the building. He didn’t hear anyone coming after him so he just sat down on the floor and stared at the ground. How could he do something like that to a women who had nothing to do with the situation and probably didn’t deserve to have something like this happen to her. He sat there and observed the wallet. It was pink, big and rectangular . He opened it to see 3 credit cards, a $200.
“Why are you starring at that wallet?“ a voice came from behind him. Steven looked around to see a little boy around 10 years old starring at him.
“ Umm, there’s no reason…I was just admiring it. Where is your mother and why are you up here?” he lied and questioned the kids to take the attention off of himself and because he wouldn’t want to tell the little boy what he did.
“ My mother went to the supermarket and I was bored so I came up here to play until my mother came home. I like your wallet though, it looks familiar,” the little boy said.
“Oh really kid. Well I have to go. Have fun playing,” he said and patted the kid on the head. At the same moment he heard a lady screaming from inside the building, “John, get downstairs right now!” she said yelling. The voice sounded familiar but he couldn’t remember where he heard it from.
As he began to walk down the steps it all started to come together. The lady that he stole the wallet from was carrying grocery bags and the voice that was calling for John was aggravated and mean just like the voice yelling after him on the street. He stopped in the place he was standing in and didn’t move but after a while he realized he had to run as fast as he could before the lady could see him. As he ran he seen something coming up soon and he thought he knew what it was but he wasn’t sure. Once he got to the front of the door it became clear what it was and what was the right thing to do. He turned left into the building.
“Hi, I would like to return a stolen wallet,” he said quietly.
