Reflection

I do think that being apart of the Hunter College early college program better prepared me for my future college career. I think that being on the campus and being apart of college class really helped me to see what I would be facing next year. I honestly think that if I would’ve not taken this opportunity that I would be lost next year in college and even more terrified then I am now to go to college. Being at the school really taught me mostly about responsibility because that is the biggest challenge to overcome while being on a college campus. One of the biggest hardships that I struggled with was learning how to study on my own. Studying is one of the most important things to do because college teachers don’t take students step by step on how to study for their test and assume you know what to do. I am used to teachers guiding me on how to study for their tests. This is the one thing I still have to work on because I still have not mastered the skill of studying. A moment of great success would be when I studied really hard for my Pre- Calc final and I ended up getting a 91 on it, I felt really accomplished then. The Hunter College courses I took were Astronomy, Pre- Calc, Geography and Stat- 113. My favorite one of those classes was Pre- Calc personally because I really like Pre- Calc and I loved the teacher especially since I had him before as a student teacher in my Pre- Calc class in the high school. Something’s that I still need to work on in order to be an even more successful college student would be to study more, to read the textbooks because they carry the most information for tests, to pay attention to the lectures a little more because that plays a part in understanding the material and making sure to complete all the homework because that helps a lot also. Places that I studied in the school were mostly the library on the 7th floor because of the nice open environment and quietness. I also studied in the computer labs and couches by the library. The facilities I used at the college would be the library, computer labs, the cafeteria and the nurses office. I learned about myself while being a part of the early college program that I can do better on my own then I thought. I thought that without all of the babying that teachers give high schools students that on a college campus I wouldn’t be able to handle it but I learned that I can be more responsible then I thought. I learned that I can actually succeed in doing things when I put my mind to it and accomplish passing my classes. I learned that without the program I don’t think that I would be able to make it through my freshman year at college. I will be attending Hunter College for Fall 2010. I am not sure what my personal goals are for the future but I know that I want to be doing something productive and successful. I hope to figure out what I want to pursue in life during my time at Hunter College. In 10 to 20 years I hope to be settled down with a family and making a descent amount of money. The advice that I would give to future MHSHS students would be to keep their mind on education and not to get too caught up into the new College experience because that will be what will be their downfall.
