“I have a big surprise for you guys!” Mom said as we walked back from school. It was so cold outside I could barley even think. All I wanted to do was get home and be warm already but that didn’t take away from the excitement I felt about the new “surprise” my mom was so excited about. I was wondering what could make her so happy after the last couple of months. The whole way home my sister Lindsey was trying to figure out the surprise but my mother didn’t cave in and tell or even give away a hint. All she said was we would be very happy about it.
When we walked in the door, we put our stuff down on the floor and right away Lindsey and I ran around the house looking for what the surprise was but we didn’t find anything. Mom stopped us as we were about to rampage her bedroom door and said
“Emily and Lindsey, go sit down in the living room and I’m going to be there in a minute with the surprise.” We both slouched our shoulders and went to sit on the living room floor waiting for the surprise. As we were sitting there playing our hand games, I heard a “meow” and we both turned our heads to see a baby kitten the size of my mother hands walking slowly from my mothers bedroom door. My mother said “SURPRISE! Merry Christmas.” Lindsey and I ran over to the little cat and started petting it and playing with it and then we both ran to my mother and gave her a big hug. This was the best early Christmas gift I could I have ever asked for. The kitten was black and white with green eyes, it was the tiniest cat I had ever seen. My mom explained to us that it was only 2 weeks old and she bought it off of a lady that was selling it in the street.
While we were all sitting on the floor trying to figure out a name for the little kitten, was when she discovered her tail. She ran in circles, over and over trying to catch it and then started to run around the living room like a little ball of energy. That was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I knew from this moment on that this would be the perfect thing we would need to keep our spirits up after the divorce.
